The Quincy Municipal Water Reclamation Facility receives and treats residential, commercial and industrial wastewater from the community and agricultural industries.  In response to recent increases in wastewater loading, the City of Quincy is seeking to increase capacity in the two sequencing batch reactors by installing a new, higher capacity aeration diffuser grid, and increasing blower output.

360 Analytics was engaged by PACE Engineers to perform an on-site energy audit, as well to assist in development and implementation of a measurement and verification (M&V) plan, including accounting for plant loading increases throughout the post-retrofit reporting period.

360 Analytics was engaged by the design team to provide energy modeling services to inform HVAC system selection and LEED-NC energy modeling.  During the design development phase, the study focused heavily on comparing two HVAC system options: 1) Packaged variable air volume (VAV) versus 2) a high-efficiency variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system with dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS).  Because this analysis occurred early in design, 360 Analytics worked closely with members across the project team including design professionals, contractors, and subs to ensure the systems and performance modeled closely represented a fully designed system.  The analysis illustrated the significant energy/maintenance savings, CO2 emission reductions, and additional LEED points, while a simple financial model revealed an acceptable payback period.

Seattle Public Libraries

Seattle’s library branches serve as gathering and learning centers for all the major neighborhoods of the City. They are a diverse group of buildings, varying widely in age and building design.

360 Analytics was engaged by O’Brien and Company to provide the Seattle Office of Sustainability with an analysis of operations and maintenance (O&M) measures implemented across this portfolio of buildings. To do this, 360 analyzed three years of monthly natural gas and electric utility bills for all sites, and created basic models that represent the weather normalized energy performance of each building before and after operational changes were made. The study was complicated by making O&M adjustments in conjunction with changes to building operation hours. However, 360 developed a novel approach to use available hourly energy interval data to account for this influence, effectively illustrating the range of savings for all buildings.


Safford Memorial Shelter

The Safford Memorial Shelter is a major renovation and addition to create a comfortable high-performance animal shelter for the Animal Rescue League of Boston. Integrating energy modeling early into the design phase allowed the design team to identify measures with the highest energy impacts. A number of technologies were investigated including ground source heat pumps, radiant-floor heating, solar-assisted hot water, energy recovery, natural ventilation, and tempered dedicated outside air.

Seattle Municipal Tower

The goal of this analysis was to evaluate the energy consumption and cost impacts of installing new glazing units as part of an overall retrofit of the sloped glazing system at the top of the Tower. The process started with an initial site visit, review of as-built drawings, and confirming operational/HVAC assumptions with the building manager. Using this information, a whole-building energy model of the upper floors was created, including descriptions of VAV air distributions systems, central plant equipment, and daylighting controls. Detailed simulation inputs for the existing and various new glazing options were generated using the WINDOW/OPTICS programs, and the impacts of each selection on HVAC and lighting energy consumption evaluated.

UW Husky Stadium Renovation and Team Facilities

The University of Washington Husky Stadium Renovation and Team Facilities restores iconic Husky Stadium to one the finest college football venues in the country. In addition to new seating, suites, and other spectator amenities, state-of-the-art team operations and sports medicine facilities have been efficiently integrated into the renovation of the program.

Energy modeling was initially employed to evaluate compliance with the 2009 Seattle Energy Code via the Systems Analysis (RS-29) approach. This required close coordination with the design team, as well as proactive communication with code reviewers throughout the permitting process. The same detailed models were used to evaluate impacts of various envelope revisions, and ongoing work includes preparing ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Appendix G energy models to determine LEED-NC 2009 Energy and Atmosphere (EAc1) performance rating.
